Hundreds of Wall Street Traders Receive Book

On Tuesday morning, October 15th, author and former comic, Steve Young set up shop in front of the New York Stock Exchange as he halted traders & brokers headed to work for a day of trading. Young gave each of them a copy of his new book...GREATEST FAILURES OF THE EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL (Tallfellow Press). The former stand-up comic and award-winning comedy writer was quite a site to behold on Wall Street, and not only garnered the attention of traders, but also peaked the curiosity of pedestrians and passing traffic.

It was Young's hope that in making such a positive effort, traders would not be reminded of the failings of the past that led to Black Monday fifteen years ago. The anniversary of that dark day takes place this week.

Steve says there's was an important lesson that came out of the '87 crash. Investors who sold, took a bath. Those who held and continued a disciplined and systemic approach received rewards. That, in fact, the bad news wouldn't have been all that bad, IF (A HUMONGOUS BIG "IF"), investors would have held on for the ride. As Steve believes, it's time let out the wild Bull crashing around inside that old hideous Bear.

It takes a lot of intestinal fortitude to stick out the adversities and do something that is truly special. It is much easier to say 'SELL' and take the easy way out, as many traders and investors did in 1987. DID TRADERS LISTEN? Maybe it's only a coincidence, but remarkably the market rallied and closed UP 378 points.

Steve Young & Kiosk in Front of Stock Exchange

Steve Young was quite prominent with his vendor cart, plastered with signage. His cart was loaded with more than 500 copies of his popular book, GREAT FAILURES OF THE EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL. It was his sincere hope, that the many true stories of adversity would serve to encourage traders to deliver a positive message to their investors and brave out the current economic downswing. He was strategically placed in front of the Nation's largest financial exchange, and stopped hundreds of traders in the 3 hours he maintained his vigil.
Steve Young with a Wall Street trader

Young handed out hundreds of copies of his book to both traders and investors, as they rushed to the trading floor Tuesday morning. In order to receive the FREE copy, Young asked brokers to first accept their role in turning around the present Market, and shoot for a big day of trading. He asked them to make the day a positive and uplifting experience for their clients, and serve as a ray of hope. He was well-received by everyone who took a brief detour into the nation's largest stock exchange.
NYSE Director, Richard Grasso and Steve Young

After seeing many copies of Young's book mysteriously showing up in the hands of Tuesday's traders, NYSE Executive Director, Richard Grasso came out to meet Young. He commended him on braving the cold, windy corner of Wall and Broad Streets, and inquired what promoted Young to take-on Wall Street. Grasso asked for a personal copy of Young's book and thanked him for his presence and inspiring contribution to the day's trading.
The Book That Changed Wall Street

Steve Young's book offers a myriad of personal stories, as told by more than 60 high-profile personalities, including Jane Goodall, Norm Pattiz, Sam Donaldson, John Wooden, Teddy Pendergrass, Erin Brockovich and others, sharing how they used adversity as the impetus to turn their lives around for the better.
